ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Alyssa!

I’m 27, I work in college athletics, and this year I decided to start taking solo trips.

My travel style can best be described as all over the place. I’m impulsive, I like to plan, and somehow I manage to do both at the same time. I’ll get all the logistics down and then completely change my plans once I get there because I saw something that looked interesting.

I’ve also realized that I’m much more at home in nature than I am in big cities. Give me a scenic drive, mountain views, and quiet beaches over crowded downtowns and bumper-to-bumper traffic any day.

WHY PLUS ONE OPTIONAL?

For a long time, I think I subconsciously treated travel like something I needed someone else to do with me. If I wanted to go somewhere, I needed a friend who was available, someone who could take the time off, or someone who wanted to spend the money.

Eventually, I realized I didn’t want to keep waiting. That’s where Plus One Optional came from.Sometimes I’ll have a plus one. Sometimes I won’t. Either way, I go anyway.

This isn’t a travel blog from someone who has been everywhere or has everything figured out. It’s a place where I’m sharing my own trips, figuring things out as I go, and hopefully showing that you don’t have to wait for the perfect travel companion to experience something you’ve been wanting to do.

What you’ll find
here

You’ll find travel stories, itineraries, budgets, recommendations, mistakes, and probably a few questionable decisions along the way.

Some trips will be solo. Some will be with friends or family. Some will be carefully planned, and some will probably involve me seeing something from the side of the road and deciding I absolutely have to stop.

I’m here to share the places I loved, the things I learned, and what I’d do differently next time, all while figuring out how to make travel work with a full-time job and a limited amount of time off.

A lot of pictures,
too

Photography is a huge part of how I experience these trips. I love capturing the little moments, the big views, and all the in-between that make a place feel special.

I’d love to share those pictures with you, too, in the hope that you can feel even just a little slice of what that day felt like.

So whether you’re looking for your next destination, trying to figure out how to travel solo, or just want to come along for the ride, I’m glad you’re here.

Solo when you want. Together when you can.

Because sometimes you just have to go anyway
